What is neXtSelect?

Our proprietary neXtSelect index tool has been developed specifically to give you the power to combine breeding values in a way that makes the most sense to your operation and market objectives. 

This sophisticated tool allows us to create customised selection indices that weight different traits according to your target markets, environmental and management adaptability factors, and the traits’ economic importance in your specific production system. We work with your team to establish these weightings based on your commercial goals and the relative economic value of each trait in your system.

Once each index has been developed, we can calculate index values for progeny each year and use this information to make breeding recommendations. This provides a single, comprehensive ranking system that simplifies breeding decisions while ensuring all economically important traits are considered appropriately. The index scoring enables direct comparison between animals and helps identify the most genetically superior individuals for breeding purposes.

Regular index reporting provides clear, actionable information for selection decisions, allowing your team to consistently apply breeding pressure in the direction that will deliver the greatest economic returns. As market conditions change or breeding objectives evolve, the index can be recalibrated to maintain its relevance and effectiveness as a selection tool across all nucleus breeding programmes.

How can you access neXtSelect?

neXtSelect is included in neXtgen Agri consulting packages. Non-clients interested in developing their own index will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
